It would be very useful to have this included. Or at least 10.5. Or at least some clear instructions for the supported OSs how to safely update manually.
I think auto-updating it would be in the best interest at least.

I think you’ve posted in the wrong place. The topic you linked to is about phpmyadmin, not mariadb.
But, yes, both should be installed by updating the repo to the latest stable release and then install.
