i did exactly this and all i have
E: Malformed entry 1 in list file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dovecot.list (URI parse)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
I REALLY hate this community forum. It alters insert Text. So please, try this:
deb https://repo.dovecot.org/ce-2.3-latest/ubuntu/bionic bionic main
The community forum software always stripped the leading part of the URL
