Backup Website doesn't appear to be working

Greetings!

I’m trying to run a back up before doing some upgrades. Everything seemed to be pretty straight forward. I started the backup process last night knowing it may take some time. I looked at the backup screen today and it was still just sitting there just as I had left it last night.

I’m following the steps exactly as they are outlined here - 1 - Backup/Restore - 07 - Backups - CyberPanel Community

I select the site, select the destination (only option is Home) and the page just sits there with the progress indicator moving (next to the “BACKUP WEBSITE” text) but nothing ever happens. I checked the path /home/websitedomain.com for a /backup directory and there is nothing. Nor is there a backup directory in the /home directory

It’s as if nothing is being done, and I haven’t been able to find any docs telling me how to check the progress of the backup.

Does the backup directory need to be created first? If not, wouldn’t there at least be a directory folder showing up at some point.

Please advise … Scott

I’m going to make a guess that the backup is failing, where would I check to verify?

I have another server with Cyberpanel installed with brand new websites that only have a default Wordpress installation and their backups are working great.

I believe your global python might be having some issues. Go to: /usr/local/lscp/logs

and remove all files starting local_backup*

Then run:

python /usr/local/CyberCP/plogical/backupScheduleLocal.py

It will generate a new backup file in: /usr/local/lscp/logs

Print the output of this log file, It could be a minor bug to run this file via virtualenv, but paste the logs to be sure.

There isn’t a local_backup file in the logs directory, and after running the python command there wasn’t anything generated.

I’m not sure if this could be related, but I have been working for the past five hours on trying to SSH into this server, but I keep getting a public key permission denied. For some reason, this is the only server I can not SSH into at the moment. (I currently run three separate servers, and can SSH into the other two) It’s a Digital Ocean droplet, and I can access the server via DO’s console, which is ultimately how I was able to run the python command.

ok, so the issue I had with the SSH was one of my dumbest mistakes to date … I was trying to log into the wrong server, for FIVE hours … (slaps forehead REALLY HARD)

Here’s what the log file generated from the Python command …

Ok, so while generating backup he ran into an issue, you must be having something in CyberPanel main log file that could help us?

where might I find the correct log file, I looked a few and couldn’t tell what was going on so I assumed there was a log file I was missing.

I have checked the error and access logs from with in CyberPanel, cleared them and refreshed them to see new detail and there’s nothing showing up.

Thanks … Scott

I cleared the logs, ran the Python command again and refreshed the error log file in CyberPanel, here’s what I got.

These are OpenLiteSpeed logs, CyberPanel logs are at /serverstatus/cyberCPMainLogFile

Revisiting this …

I’m still unable to get a backup on this particular server. This is a Digital Ocean server, not sure if that matters . I have since converted all my personal websites over to CyberPanel and don’t have any issues with backups on them. They’re on a completely different dedicated server.

I have checked the CyberPanel log file in the Server Status section and it’s empty.

I’m at a loss as to how to go about troubleshooting this issue since none of the log files point to anything wrong.

When attempting a backup, the page just sits there with no indication that anything is happening (other than the rotating dots). When I initiate a backup on the dedicated box, I get a running status showing me the current backup being processed and eventually I get the “completed” status

I desperately need to keep backups on this as it’s a client website, my other options would be to install a backup plugin for Wordpress, but I would rather do this via CP

Please submit your ticket at https://cyberpanel.net/support

With login details and steps to reproduce your problem.

Submitted ticket, and the support on this is absolutely amazing.

For anyone who stumbles on this, I had changed the MySQL password but failed to update the settings file.

@usmannasir fixed the issue and updated CP to it’s latest version, talk about going above and beyond  - THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I also can’t backup with error:

[root@sh ~]# ./backup.sh
mv: cannot stat ‘/home//backup/.tar.gz’: No such file or directory
